A new plan

I'm always scheming something, aren't I?

This time I think I've hit on a plan with some merit. I've been doing a lot of thinking about what I'm going to do after I graduate, and I realize that I've done very little work in the field that I'm studying, but a lot in web design and development. I was trying to figure out what I could do with the combination of the three and I stumbled upon an idea: combine them into a sellable service.

I know what you're thinking, but hear me out. This type of service would be to pay the bills, and possibly help me make actual movies. What I would do is basically sell videographer services, but include in the packages a web package deal, where a completely custom web site is put up with the video content. I could either do it with a custom CMS, or modify Drupal or something.

However, the thought also occurred to me that my web design/development portfolio is rather lacking, so I've decided that in the interim while I finish my degree, I'm going to slowly start adding to it custom web templates and themes for both Drupal and Wordpress. After I get the hang of themeing both systems, I'll move on to making custom modules for both to beef up my PHP skills. All of these would be posted for free on this site. However, I'd slowly transition to doing web design or module "bounty hunting" where I'd build custom modules or themes for a price. I could do something for moodle somewhere in there, too.

Of course, all this takes second fiddle to my actual coursework, but in those rare moments I do find time, I think I'd be stupid to not start building out my portfolio, as this is what I would end up showing to potential employers.

Weirdly enough, I also miss running my own business...
